Morton Grove Park District Pools

Line Break

The new pool project is moving quickly so we can meet our target opening date of May 24, 2014. The architectural firm of Williams and Associates and construction management firm, McHugh Construction, are working hard with the board and staff to complete all the details for the design of a new pool and bathhouse.

Oriole Pool Update - April 8, 2013

Residents had an opportunity to see the new plans at a community meeting held in March and the Board of Commissioners approved the final design for Oriole Pool and bathhouse on March 21, 2013. The staff at Williams Architecture are now working on the construction drawings to submit to the State (Illinois Department of Public Health) for construction permits. The construction management firm, McHugh Construction, will be the construction manager for the project. Ground breaking and construction are scheduled to begin no later then September. So please excuse our dust and thank you for your patience.

Take Part in the Future plans of Oriole Pool - February 18, 2013

Morton Grove residents are invited to learn more about the Park District’s exciting plans for a brand new pool at Oriole Park. The Park District needs your help to work with the architectural firm of Williams and Associates to design the new facility which could possibly include; a spray pad with fun interactive features, zero-depth entries, 25 yard competitive six lanes, a bathhouse, concession area and a multi-purpose room for programs.

The Morton Grove Park District will host two community meetings on Saturday, March 16, 2013 in the Activity Room of the Prairie View Community Center, 6834 Dempster Street. Designs for the project will be out for public review during the hours of 10:00am – 11:30am or 12:30pm – 2:00pm. Residents who attend these meetings will be able to offer their comments on the project.

Oriole Pool Update - Feb 7, 2013

We are working on some exciting new plans for Oriole Pool. At the end of the 2012 pool season, the Oriole Pool liner failed and after evaluating the costs associated with making the extensive repairs needed to open that pool for the 2013 season, the Board of Commissioners determined that it would provide a greater benefit to its residents to construct a new pool. Therefore, Oriole Pool will be closed for the summer of 2013. The Park Board has aggressively begun the development project which includes, developing our financial plan, hiring a construction management firm and soon we will be hiring an architectural firm. We also will be soliciting resident feedback on pool design so watch for future pool updates on the park district website. Demolition on the pool and bathhouse will begin around March 7, 2013 and construction of a new facility will begin sometime in late summer. We plan to reopen for the summer of 2014. So please excuse our dust and thank you for your patience.

Pools are now closed for the season - Sept. 3, 2013

The Morton Grove Park District’s Oriole and Harrer pools are closed for the season. The hot weather this summer brought thousands of patrons to the pools who enjoyed some really nice days to swim and have fun with their families and friends. We were open for 89 days of operation this summer with only 7 closings due to inclement weather. Our lifeguards were audited 3 times this summer by Ellis & Associates and received an “Exceeds Standards” rating every time. The auditors were also very impressed with one lifeguard in particular. Meghan Henry was awarded the Golden Guard. This is a hard award to achieve and is given to a lifeguard who displayed the highest standard in safety in all areas.
The pools may be closed but work continues. Every fall, the pools are evaluated to determine any deficiencies or areas of repair are needed before the next summer. Unfortunately, at the end of this season, Oriole Pool suffered a liner failure. The liner is the vinyl covering of the pool surface. On Labor Day, Harrer Pool’s last schedule day of operation, there was a mechanical issue. The pool pump responsible for pool circulation broke. The Superintendent of Parks and Facilities, Greg Jayne will be meeting with different contractors to assess both situation and gather information on repairs needed and their costs. After evaluations are completed, the options for repair work will be presented to the Park Board for review. The ultimate goal is to use the off season months to be ready for another fun summer in 2013.
